June 8 - Counting Blessings

Today, a group of our friends got together at Webb Bridge Park for a baby shower for our friend Kirstin. Kirstin is due in about 4 weeks, and her baby has HLHS, a very serious heart defect that requires surgery immediately after birth. I am amazed at her strength and courage as they face this diagnosis and uncertain future.

The kids had a great time playing at the park. Here they are playing ice cream shop. Notice the apron that Kirstin's daughter Miriam is wearing in the back between Lila and Nellie.

Lila was very impressed with the apron Miriam had made for herself, so later this afternoon, she made one too. She used the sewing machine by herself.

On this day in 2009, Lila, Nellie, and I took the train downtown to meet Rick at the Georgia Aquarium. The girls wore their fishy outfits, of course.

We walked through Centennial Olympic Park to get to the aquarium, and Rick showed Lila the brick that was dedicated to his mother during the Olympics when the park was built.
